Windmill Designer Pinwheel Quilt Block
Windmill, a Designer Pinwheel quilt pattern for a 12″ square quilt, can be used alone or in multiples to make a larger quilt. Use the pattern for a cushion cover, a small wall hanging, with or without borders and binding, or make multiple blocks for a large bed cover quilt, with or without sashing. With sashing, it would be a great quilt-as-you-go project!
The original quilt had no unnecessary piecing seam lines. It was embroidered with hand-sewn chain stitching and quilted entirely by hand in a skewed grid. The quilting lines were spaced equally from the center outward. The lines were based on the two short sides of each of the four triangles. This quilt was clean-finished with a “bagged” backing, as shown in the photo.
Add seam allowances to all patches and borders.
Supplies needed to make this quilt top:
• 1 small scrap for each center appliqué
• Beads or other embellishments of your choice
• 1 fat quarter for each background and 1 for each set of windmill arms
• Neutral thread for piecing
